2015 UNITED STATES ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE

IMPLEMENTATION: June 11th 2015

Modified regulations: - 2015 UNITED STATES ROTAX MAX REGULATIONS - Ignition System, Intake Silencer, Carburetor, Exhaust System
Modified regulations: - Rotax MAX Challenge Technical Regulation 2015
This bulletin modifies the above regulations for clarification and/or modification.

A) 6.6 Ignition system

Has been modified by the addition of the following:
To fit the gasket (Rotax 431 500, thickness 0,8 mm)
between the pick-up and the crankcase is an allowed
option.

B) 6.6 Ignition system

Has been modified by the addition of the following:
Version 2, Dellorto ignition system
In case of conflict with a chassis component, the addition of 2 spacers, one per hole, with a maximum
thickness of 20 mm between the bracket and the engine is allowed.


C) 6.6 Ignition system
Version 2, Dellorto ignition system

Actual regulation states:
The electronic boxes are labeled with stickers and are still legal also if the
sticker disappeared.
125 Junior MAX: “666812, 125 Junior MAX evo”
125 MAX: “666814, 125 MAX evo”
125 MAX DD2: “666816, 125 MAX DD2 evo”

The electronic box has to be checked with the ECU tester (Rotax part no. 276
230) according to following procedure.
Disconnect engine cable harness from electronic box.
Connect ECU tester cable harness to electronic box.
Connect energy cable of ECU tester cable harness with the charging connector
of engine cable harness.
The ECU tester will automatically detect the type of the ECU and will start a
check program for the ignition timing and the timing for the exhaust valve.
The ECU tester must show following results:

125 Junior MAX
ECU TEST OK
125 Junior MAX evo

125 MAX
ECU TEST OK
125 MAX evo

125 MAX DD2
ECU TEST OK
125 MAX DD2 evo

It has been modified to:

The electronic control unit (ECU) is labeled with stickers and is still legal also if
the sticker
is unreadable or disappeared.

125 Junior MAX: “666812, 125 Junior MAX evo”
125 MAX: “666814, 125 MAX evo”
125 MAX DD2: “666816, 125 MAX DD2 evo”

The ECU has to be checked with the ECU tester (Rotax part no. 276 230)
according to following procedure.
Disconnect engine cable harness from ECU.
Connect ECU tester cable harness to ECU.
Connect energy cable of ECU test er cable harness with the charging connector
of engine cable harness.
Start the test by pressing the button “ ” on the ECU tester.
After approx. 1 second the type of ECU that is actually tested will be indicated
in the second line of the display.
After approx. 15 seconds the result of the test will be indicated in the first line of
the display.
The test has to be performed using the latest software version of the ECU tester
(indicated at every start of an ECU test)

The ECU tester has to indicate following results :
125 Junior MAX category

Jnr. MAX EVO
!! Test OK !!


125 MAX category
MAX EVO

125 MAX DD2 category
MAX DD2 EVO
!! Test OK !!


D) Section 6.8. Intake silencer
125 Junior MAX and 125 MAX
Actual regulations states:
Air filter (pos 4) must be installed as shown in the illustration between the two
holders (pos 3) and must cover the complete area of the intake silencer case
bottom (pos1). Two versions of original air filters (pos.4) are legal to be used,
the single layer air filter (black) or the double layer air filter (green/black)
marked “TwinAir”.

It has been modified to :

Air filter (pos 4) must be installed as shown in the illustration between the two
holders (pos 3) and must cover the complete area of the intake silencer case
bottom (pos1). Two versions of original air filters (pos.4) are legal to be used,
the single layer air filter (black) or the double layer air filter (...) marked
“TwinAir” ( ROTAX part no . 225 053).

E) Section 6.9. Carburetor
Specific regulation for Dellorto VHSB 34 XS
This carburetor must be used with EVO engines only

Has been modified by the addition of the following:

Idle jet has to be stamped with “60”. Plug gauge 0,65 mm
may not enter at all the bore of the idle jet 60 (use jet
gauge set Rotax part no. 281 920).

 

 

 

Idle emulsion tube has to be stamped with “45”. Plug gauge
0,50 mm may not enter at all the bore (use jet gauge
set Rotax part no. 281 920).

 

 

 

Plug gauge 0,55 mm may not enter at all one of the 4 cross
bores (use jet gauge set Rotax part no. 281 920).

 

 

 

F) Section 6.13 Exhaust system
125 Junior MAX and 125 MAX

Actual regulation states:
The silencer can be turned that the 90° elbow outlet of the silencer shows either
downwards towards the asphalt (preferred version for lowest noise emissions)
or towards the back.
Version 3 can only be used with EVO engines.


It has been modified to :

The silencer can be turned that the 90° elbow outlet of the silencer shows either
downwards towards the asphalt (preferred version for lowest noise emissions)
or towards the back.

125 MAX DD2
Actual regulation states :

Silencer end cap with 90° elbow is mandatory to be used for version 3.
Version 3 can only be used with EVO engines.


It has been modified to :

Silencer end cap with 90° elbow is mandatory to be used for version 3.
(...).


The modifications in this bulletin have been integrated in the US Rotax MAX Challenge Technical Regulation 2015. The version dated June 11th, 2015 replaces the version dated March 16th, 2015.
